High gastronomy: Veja magazine lists the restaurants Ca'D'Oro, La Vecchia Cucina, Massimo, Pomodori, Supra and Vecchio Torino as Italian Restaurants - High Gastronomy. They certainly rank amongst the finest - and most expensive - restaurants in town.

Rua Augusta, 129 - Consolacao - Phone: (11) 3236-4300 - 90 seats
Established in 1953, inside the Hotel of same name.

»La Vecchia Cucina
Rua Pedroso Alvarenga, 1088 - Itaim - Phone: (11) 3079-7115 - 60 seats
The restaurant is located at the Transamerica Victoria Place Flat. Chef Sergio Arno renovated the restaurant in April of 2007; good news: prices were reduced by about 15%; bad news: the number of tables was reduced.

»Massimo (no website !)
Alameda Santos, 1826 - Cerqueira César - Phone: (11) 3284-0311 - 120 seats
Ran by brothers Massimo (the chef) and Venanzio (administration), from the region of Piemonte. An interesting note is that, according to this notice, Massimo is one of the few high standard restaurants in São Paulo which does not charge for the coffee.

Rua Doutor Renato Paes de Barros - Phone: (11) 3168-3123 - 32 seats
The main hall is small and always busy. Chefs Jefferson Rueda and Rodrigo Martins change the menu according to seasons, to make use of the best ingredients.

Rua Araçari, 260 - Itaim Bibi - Phone: (11) 3071-1818 - 88 seats
Chef Mauro Maia quit his white collar career to embrace the restaurant.

»Vecchio Torino (no website !)
Rua Tavares Cabral, 119 - Pinheiros - Phone: (11) 3816-0560 - 80 seats
Ran by chef Giuseppe La Rosa and his wife Manuela. The wine menu is often mentioned, both for the quality and the prices.

»La Risotteria
Rua Padre João Manuel, 1156 - Jardim Paulista - Phone: (11) 3068-8605
The Italian chef Alessandro came to Brazil invited by Rogério Fasano, owner of Fasano restaurat chain, and opened his own restaurant in 2001.
Specialty are the risottos, like the one with seafood. Good selection of wines.

»Due Cuochi
Rua Manoel Guedes, 93 - Itaim Bibi - Phone: (11) 3078-8092
Italian menu, Italian ingredients. Small restaurant (45 seats), booking is advised.
This restaurant was chosen by Veja magazine as one of the best Italian restaurants in São Paulo in 2006; see full list here.
